7 reasons to inspect your PV system

Your solar panels are still generating electricity. But do you know whether they are performing well, in sound technical condition and ready for your future energy plans? Commercial solar panel maintenance involves more than cleaning panels or responding to a breakdown. These seven situations show when a technical inspection and ongoing management can make a difference.

1. You want to document your system’s condition for insurance purposes

After a fire, storm damage or an electrical incident, your insurer may ask about the condition of your PV system, previous faults and the steps you took. If inspections and interventions were never recorded, that history can be difficult to reconstruct later.

Periodic checks help identify issues involving cables, connectors, electrical distribution boards and inverters. Reports, photographs and records of completed work also give you a clear maintenance history. This supports internal management and may be useful when a claim is assessed. Maintenance does not guarantee insurance coverage: the terms of your policy and the circumstances of the individual claim remain decisive.

2. You want to spot lost production sooner

A PV system can continue generating electricity while a faulty string, an inverter fault or a communication issue reduces output. Without active monitoring, an anomaly like this may go unnoticed for a long time.

Insaver’s service engineers review available production data and alerts every day. They analyse deviations and link them to appropriate actions. A preventive inspection also helps assess critical components and recurring faults. Targeted cleaning may be part of the solution when soiling affects output, but maintenance involves much more than washing panels.

3. Your system is still eligible for green energy certificates

For a system with an active support scheme, a production outage may have a double impact: you could lose both electricity generation and certificates. A problem with the production meter or its records also deserves attention.

Monitoring, checks of meters and communications, and accurate records of faults and replacements help manage the technical side of your support file. When the system is modified, it is also important to check which notifications and supporting documents are required. Official meter records and the conditions of your individual scheme ultimately determine whether certificates are awarded.

4. You combine solar PV with a battery and smart energy management

A battery and energy management system rely on production data from your PV installation. When data are missing or components are not working properly, it becomes harder to manage the entire energy system effectively.

Monitoring solar PV, battery storage and energy management together gives you a clearer view of performance and potential faults. Insaver Service can assess and manage these components as one technical system. Potential savings depend on factors including your consumption, energy contract, grid connection, battery and control strategy.

5. You need to restore your system after a fire

After a roof fire, you want to bring your PV system back into operation safely. This involves more than replacing damaged panels: the design, electrical protection, inspection and restart all need to work together.

Insaver can assess the damage and manage the technical side of a full system renewal, also known as repowering. If the system is still eligible for green energy certificates, we also review which parts of the existing support file may be retained and what documents or notifications are needed. Whether certificates can be retained depends on the applicable rules and the conditions of your individual file.

6. Your roof may have more potential

Older PV systems sometimes use panels and components that no longer reflect what is possible today. The same roof may be able to support more generating capacity, or parts of the system may be approaching the end of their technical life.

For a repowering project, we therefore assess the whole system: roof layout and load-bearing structure, panels, cabling, inverters, protection, grid connection and metering. Only then can we determine which upgrades are technically feasible. The additional capacity will vary by roof and system.

7. Roof works are planned beneath your solar panels

If a roof needs repair or renovation, the solar panels may have to be removed temporarily. Safe shutdown, dismantling, storage, reinstallation and restart all require careful coordination.

Insaver is responsible for the PV work and coordinates it with your roofer or a specialist roofing partner. Recording the initial condition and the agreed scope, then testing the system after reinstallation, makes technical responsibilities clearer and allows generation to resume in a controlled way.

Can Insaver maintain a solar system installed by another company?

Yes. Insaver Service can take over the technical management of your commercial PV system even if another company installed it.
We begin with an initial consultation and a review of the available documents. You then receive a quote for the technical audit and an indication of the maintenance cost.

During the on-site audit, we establish a technical baseline. You receive a report with findings, priorities and recommended actions. If essential repairs or modifications are needed, we provide a separate proposal. Once that work has been completed and signed off, the maintenance contract can be signed and service can begin.
