PSA Zeebrugge
Although the site already purchases green electricity, this installation generates approximately 770 MWh of locally produced renewable electricity each year. By reducing its reliance on the electricity grid, it helps avoid CO₂ emissions at a system level, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 220 households.
“We already purchase 100% renewable electricity, but we are also making a significant investment to fully comply with the Flemish requirements for CO₂ emission reductions while contributing to PSA International’s broader ambition of achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its operations and energy consumption by 2050,” explains Francis De Ruytter, Regional Head of Sustainability at PSA Europe, Mediterranean and Americas. “The Flemish government requires companies with an annual electricity consumption exceeding 1 GWh to generate part of their energy through solar panels. With this installation, we meet our photovoltaic obligations for the Zeebrugge terminal, while also fulfilling those for our headquarters in Antwerp.”
Stijn Cuppens, CEO of Insaver, added: “By installing solar panels at their site, PSA not only reduces its energy costs but also contributes to lowering CO₂ emissions at a system level. At Insaver, we believe in tailor-made solutions that address the specific needs and challenges of every customer. Together with PSA, we developed an innovative approach perfectly suited to the unique context of their terminal. We are extremely proud to have delivered this exceptional installation and to continue supporting its maintenance and long-term performance as a trusted partner.”
